Quick Answer
For removing an old brow tattoo, laser is usually the faster route. Saline removal is done with a needle, reaches only the shallow ink, and lifts out a little at a time, so it takes many visits. Luxie uses laser on old brow tattoos that still need lightening, including microblading done elsewhere, and most take one or two sessions. The one exception is an ink allergy, where laser can't be used and saline is the better choice.

How do saline and laser removal differ?
They take old pigment out in very different ways. Saline removal works a solution into the tattooed skin with a needle, and some ink comes out as the skin heals. Laser sends light into the skin to break up the ink, which your body clears away over the following weeks.
| Factor | Saline removal | Laser |
|---|---|---|
| Needle in the skin? | Yes, the solution goes in with a needle | No needle |
| Which ink it reaches | Mostly shallow ink | Not limited to shallow ink |
| How fast it works | Slowly: very little comes out per visit | Faster: usually one or two sessions |
| When Luxie uses it | Only for an ink allergy | Old brow tattoos that still need lightening |
Saline is often sold as the gentler option. In practice, it still means putting a needle into skin that has already been tattooed, sometimes more than once.
Why Luxie stopped using saline on old brow tattoos
Luxie used to offer saline-style removal for old brow tattoos but stopped. Four problems kept coming up, and together they made laser the faster, more practical way to clear an old tattoo before starting new brows.
- Each visit lifts out very little. The change after a single session is small.
- It only reaches shallow ink. Pigment sitting deeper stays where it is.
- The whole process drags on. Small gains per visit turn into a long series of appointments.
- It still needles the skin. That's the part the "gentler than laser" pitch leaves out.
None of this means saline never works. When there's no allergy involved, though, laser gets you there in fewer visits, which matters most if you're on a tight timeline or only in Ho Chi Minh City for a short stay.
Can microblading be removed with laser?
Yes. Microblading is still pigment in the skin, so Luxie assesses and treats it like any other old brow tattoo. What matters is how dark the ink is, what color it has turned, and how many times it's been redone.

Luxie doesn't offer microblading: its hairstrokes are done with a single needle, not a blade. A separate guide, eyebrow embroidery vs microblading, explains the difference. Microblading done somewhere else can still be lightened here before new brows go on.
Most old brow tattoos need one or two laser sessions, while the tougher ones can take three or four. Nobody can promise an exact count before treatment starts. Red and blue pigments tend to be the slowest to clear, and older layers can surface between sessions. If that happens, read why brows can turn red or orange after laser.
When saline is still the better choice
There's one case where Luxie still uses a removal solution: an allergic reaction to the ink. Laser can't be used on skin with an active ink allergy, so drawing the pigment out with a solution is the best option there.

You may also see saline recommended for light, white, or skin-toned pigment. Luxie doesn't. When the old pigment is already light, it's rarely a problem, and new brows can usually go right over it without any removal first.
If you've had an allergic reaction to pigment before, Luxie tests a small area before starting new work. A patch test lowers the risk but can't rule out a reaction completely, so Luxie explains the risks before you decide.
After any brow work, itching or swelling that keeps getting worse is a reason to contact Luxie early instead of waiting it out.
What laser brow removal involves
Laser removal happens over a series of sessions, with time for your skin to recover in between. They're usually 30 to 60 days apart, and the exact timing depends on how quickly you heal.

Right after a session, the brow area is usually red, and it may scab, depending on how much damage the skin took. Because the treated skin has been injured, some of your own brow hairs may also fall out. The old ink then fades gradually. Laser doesn't involve a needle, but it isn't free of downtime either.
Sometimes the laser work is light enough that new brows can be started in the same appointment. Otherwise, the next step waits until your skin has healed and what's left of the old color can be judged properly.
On its own, each brow laser session is 1,500,000 VND. If you're also getting new brows at Luxie, laser adds a one-time 1,500,000 VND to the brow package, with no limit on sessions. Prices and packages are on the laser tattoo removal page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are quick answers to three questions clients often ask about saline, laser, and plasma when deciding how to remove an old brow tattoo.
Is saline removal gentler than laser?
Not really, despite how it's marketed. Saline still puts a needle into tattooed skin, and since each visit removes so little, you'll need more of them. Laser doesn't involve a needle at all.
Does Luxie use plasma to remove brow tattoos?
No. For old brow tattoos, laser is the only method Luxie uses to lighten the pigment. A removal solution is reserved for ink allergies.
How many laser sessions does microblading removal take?
Usually one or two, sometimes three or four for very dark, layered, or frequently retouched brows. The artist assesses your brows first, but the exact count can't be guaranteed in advance.
